What should I do if I have one day in Nashville?

I have many times done “One day in Nashville” trips being that I live so close. But, you gotta ask yourself “Is one day enough?” Honestly, just one day is selling yourself short with everything that Nashville has to offer!

Wow, spend just one day? There is the Ryman, Country Music Hall of Fame, Johnny Cash Museum, the Parthenon, Opryland Hotel, Grand Ole Opry, Music Row, Nashville’s Murals, barbecue, hot chicken, and you can’t forget Lower Broadway. It is so easy to find a good time in the Music City!

Let cover some more fun options and give a bit of detail on the ones above.

How to spend one day in Nashville

Could I write an itinerary? Yes, I could but it would be rather useless. There is such a variety of things to do that the only way I can write this is to just list choices and allow you to pick for you one day in Nashville. I say this because everyone has different tastes as to what they enjoy doing.

The history buffs will enjoy all the awesome locations pertaining to how Nashville was founded, the Civil war, museums, and even a past president’s house.

You music lovers will have a feast of all the things to do in the “Music City”. Ya know, we have that name for a reason and it has lots more than just country music to thank! Music history is the #1 reason people travel from around the globe to visit Nashville. Let us look at some ideas for your one day in Nashville. Get a pad and pen to take notes 🙂

Places about the Music City history

I’m not going to go into how Nashville got the moniker “Music City” or even “Country Music Capital of the world”. I’ll save that for a different article. Both names and another we will get into later are well earned.

Here is a great deal on combining several tours for one price. It’s called the Nashville Flex Pass.

Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum

The Country Music Hall of Fame is probably more documented music history in this museum than in any other place in Nashville. They have permanent and revolving exhibits, publications, and educational programs.

They have hundreds of stage props, music instruments, clothing, and even cars in their permanent collection of Country Music history.

This place is huge so keep track of your time so you can maximize your one day in Nashville.

Nashville Country Music Hall of Fame

The Ryman Auditorium

The Ryman Auditorium is awesome! I’ve taken a couple of tours through it and they are fairly short. So, unless you get all caught up looking at the pictures and cool artifacts, this will eat up only a couple of hours of your one day in Nashville.

The backstage tour has so much history and the pictures to prove it. Just a heads up, there are no pictures on the backstage tour. They made me turn off my Canon DSLR and not touch it again until the tour was over.

The Ryman isn’t just another music venue. You will see this as soon as you see the stage that you are on sacred grounds! This is where relationships were born, such as Johnny Cash meeting June Carter who later married Johnny. Unknown people became stars. Deals were signed on scrap paper and napkins. The Ryman IS THE place where Bluegrass was born!

Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum

Formally known as the Municipal Auditorium, the Musicians Hall of Fame houses memorabilia from many genres of music. Here you will find Classic Country, Bluegrass, Rock, Blues, and even Motown. If it is music that draws you to Nashville, make this part of your one day.

You will find exhibits and even the instruments of famous stars such as Hank Williams Sr. Ringo Starr, Tammy Wynette, Chet Atkins, Bob Segar, Bob Dylan, and even Jimmy Hendrix, and many more.

Johnny Cash Museum & Cafe’

This museum is a small place, but it is PACKED with great displays containing photos, posters, and other great collectibles featuring the life of the great legendary musician. The displays carry you through his beginnings to his rise in stardom. If you are a Johhny Cash fan, you really should check this out.

Walk of Fame Park

This cool place is Nashville’s tribute to music artists of all genres and it is free to visit. The artists that get a star have made a huge impact on music throughout the world and here in Nashville as well. I have personally been to this park many times. Typically you will find tourists and locals alike just taking up the sights. In the grassy area, people and their pets are either just laid back chillin, or throwing a ball or frisbee to enjoy the outdoors. This is located in SoBro just a block away from Lower Broadway where all the music action is.

Nashville Walk of Fame

Grand Ole Opry

There are daily daytime backstage tours and post-show backstage tours. You can schedule to watch shows of whoever the current country music artist is on the bill. There are upgrade packages as well that can get you in special rooms with VIP treatments.

There are other great places as well like Music Row, Honky Tonk Highway, and Historic RCA Studio B just to name a few that can entertain your music history curiosity.

Places to see Nashville’s history

Fort Nashborough, later became known as Nashville was founded between 1779 and 1780. The first permanent settlement was founded on Christmas of 1779. James Robertson led the group of Europeans to settle on the banks of what is now the Cumberland River.

I know .. I know .. you are looking for stuff to do. Not a history lesson :-). Alright, let’s check out some places where you can learn some Nashville history on your day adventure

Tennessee Museum

Located on Rosa L Parks Blvd, this 137,000 sq. ft building houses permanent, temporary exhibitions, and even a children’s gallery. The Tennessee State Museum is free and open to the public to enjoy.

Military Branch of the Tennessee State Museum

Located in the War Memorial Building at 301 6th Ave North downtown. This was originally built in 1925 to pay honor to the Tennesseans who served in the First World War. It was originally meant to house veteran’s souvenirs dating back to the Spanish-American War. It has grown to include military engagements throughout the twentieth century and recent.

Please note that this no private parking for the museum. So visitors must utilize the street side parking meters or parking garages.

More great Nashville attractions

I’ve given you suggestions for Tennessee history and Country Music History. Now, just go a bit more random to introduce you to some of Nashville’s Star attractions!

Centennial Park / Parthenon

Centennial Park is one of Nashville’s premier parks with 132 acres of awesome features! There are beautiful flower gardens and a 1-mile walking/jogging trail. There is Lake Watauga that you can feed the ducks and occasionally see a fish or two pop up. For you fur baby owners there is a dog park and a great big field to play in. If you are lucky enough to arrive when they are doing one of their festivals on the lawn, you will be in for a big treat for your one-day Nashville adventure.

You can’t visit Centennial Park without checking out the Partenon. It is a life-sized replica of the legit Parthenon in Athens Greece. There is a 42-foot statue of Athena that is the focus of attention on the inside. All the “gold” areas on Athena are actually real gold leaf. You should really check her out, it is very cool!

The Parthenon in Nashville

Opryland Hotel

A hotel you ask? Yes, go explore a hotel, but it isn’t just any hotel.

Opryland Hotel has a 9-acre atrium with flower gardens, waterfalls, dancing water fountains, and various artwork along the walking paths. There are many restaurants to satisfy whatever type of food cravings you may be having. You can even take a boat ride on the indoor river called The Delta.

Just a heads up. Park in the Oprymills Parking lot and walk over. The hotel parking fee is a bit pricey!!

Love Circle Park

This was the highest point in old Nashville. Drive to the top during the day or at night to get a breathtaking view of Downtown Nashville. You are just above Vanderbilt Football Stadium, Vanderbilt Hospital, and the surrounding neighborhoods. But just a bit out in the distance you will see the tall buildings of downtown.

The city acquired the property from John W. Love to build a water reservoir. Yea .. you thought Love Circle Park got its name from making some whoopie good time moments didn’t ya?!?! Hmm .. I see where your mind went 🙂 .

Located in the Westend-West End neighborhood area at Love Circle Park Nashville, TN 37212. Oh, btw, John Rich from the big-time country music band Big and Rich .. his house is at the top. Go check it out!

Lane Motor Museum

This Nashville landmark knows as the Lane Motor Museum houses about 150 cars at any given time. There are over 500 cars in the collection so they rotate them out to keep the exhibits fresh to give repeat visitors something new to look forward to.

I have been there a few times so I can honestly say you will see some of the most unique vehicles on earth. There are fast cars, slow cars, little cars, and a VERY HUGE one! There is even a car driven by an airplane propeller.

If you happen to have a bit more time you can check out some more tours here in this article.

Things to do in Nashville with Kids

Adventure Science Center

Come check out all the cool fun stuff to learn and do for both kids and adults at the Adventure Science Center. There are more than 175 hands-on scientific exhibits focusing on topics such as sound, energy, physics, biology, astronomy, earth science, weather, and space. The state-of-the-art Sudekum Planetarium is an awesome experience as well. I have visited the science center several times over the years. Every time I go I learn something new and the planetarium never ceases to amaze me.

Nashville Zoo

Nashville Zoo is located 6 miles south of downtown Nashville. The Zoo is one of the top tourist attractions in the state and is the 9th largest zoo in the country by landmass with its 188 acres of which they have just 90 acres of it developed. So, there is still lots of room to grow. Nashville Zoo has been named Best Day trip by The Tennessean and Best Regional Attraction.

So what do they have to offer you ask? A bunch of critters .. duh! Ok, I’ll get serious. Get up close and personal with Camels and goats. Come check out Flamingo Lagoon. Tigers? Yep got that as well. Ooooo snakes and spiders? Well of course. As a matter of fact, there are about 3,000 animals representing more than 350 different species. Oh yea, there is a bear in there 🙂 Sorry .. I had to.

Now there is a lot more to do than looking and touching a bunch of critters. There is a zip line, wilderness train, wild animal carousel, and get this … are ready for it .. a 66,000 square feet jungle gym!! I’m still a kid at heart so I’d be on that jungle gym .. QUICK!!

Here is a special treat for the little ones. Each Halloween they do “Boo in the Zoo”. You will see lit-up Halloween scenes, pumpkin patches, giant hay creatures, and a talking pumpkin. Don’t forget to get your spooky groove on at the Monster Mash dance area then take a ride on the Scary-Go-Round. There will also be animal shows each night. Be sure to stop at each of the 10 Trick-or-Treat stops 🙂

Nashville Library

Oh, here we go. A library? Chuck!! Are you for real thinking that a library is a good place for my child to visit as a fun day out in Nashville or a vacation spot? Well .. yes actually I am. Hear me out.

The downtown Nashville Library is way more than a bunch of books. Although the inside is absolutely phenomenal! They hold cool events that are lots of fun. Lego building contests are one that I have seen for myself. On the Church Street side of the library, they have a little grassy park. They have puppet shows there often. I know this because I have watched a couple of them while eating lunch.

Places to eat for your one day in Nashville

You can tour one sight after another, eventually, you are gonna get hungry. I’m going to list some of the more popular places to eat, that are not chain food places, and can only be found here in Nashville.

Skull’s Rainbow Room

When visiting downtown on Lower Broadway, this is one of the two most sought-after places to eat in Nashville. To add even more reason to try Skull’s, it was voted Yelp’s Top 100 places to eat in the US in 2021.

Located in the legendary Printer’s Alley. Skulls have had some seriously famous people grace its famous stage. Legends such as Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Etta James, and Johnny Cash have entertained people here. So, just think, you will be enjoying a great meal on pretty much-hallowed ground.

Today there are awesome jazz bands playing some energetic tunes while you are being served. Oh … btw .. on Friday and Saturdays after 11 pm sit back and enjoy the burlesque shows that put this place over the top!!

They do require reservations and there is no strict dress code.

House of Cards

If I only had one day in Nashville, this would be a must-do! Here is the other most sought-after place to eat in Nashville. You not only have probably the most delicious meal in Nashville (Rated by “Only in Your State”), you get a magic show, let’s just say you get an experience of a lifetime!

House of Cards has been rated locally as the best eating experience in Nashville. Also rated nationally as one of to top 100 best restaurants in the US for a big night out. I can promise you an experience like no other restaurant in Nashville can even come close to delivering.

House of Cars is underground under the Johnny Cash museum. The shows, displays, and entertainment are centered around magic. You are encouraged to explore the dining room to enjoy all the rare collections from famous magicians such as Houdini himself. Some of America’s top magicians will be set up around the room to entertain you with tricks and mind-boggling illusions all night long. Just DO IT!! 🙂

Keep a few things in mind. There is a strict dress code of men in khakis and collars (dresscoat and tie optional). Or, ladies in dress or skirt and classy shirt. They do require a reservation. Also … take no pictures or video once inside.

Other great places to eat while in Nashville for the day

I gotta be straight with ya. After suggesting Skull’s and House of Cards it really makes all the other places … just … plain and cookie cutter. Don’t get me wrong, there are some GREAT restaurants in Nashville to check out that are simply “enjoy some good food” type places. They will not have the entertainment like the ones mentioned above. But .. there are many that have great live music while you are munching down!

I’m going to keep the food choices kinda around the Lower Broadway, SoBro, and The Gulch part of downtown. Now, over on McGavock Pike near the Opryland Hotel things are a bit slower-paced than the downtown area. You may be able to get seated and served quicker so it helps you maximize your one-day Nashville itinerary. Don’t worry, there are still some cool places to eat over there. Although you will not have the option for the rooftop experiences on McGavock.

Johnny Cash Bar and BBQ

Yep … I mentioned this one above. Right next door to the museum is the Johnny Cash Cafe and BBQ. They serve some good ole American southern home-style cooking from Breakfast, Lunch Dinner. Then there is the late-night menu which is your typical late-night bar-style foods such as smoked wings, bbq nachos, hot chicken tacos, pretzel bites, and more.

Acme Feed and Seed

No this isn’t for feeding livestock downtown. I’ve eaten at Acme several times, it is located on the corner of Lower Broadway downtown. They have the option of great rooftop dining as well. The food is very good, great atmosphere and there is often live entertainment on the lower level.

Kid Rock’s Honky Tonk and Steakhouse

Located on 3rd and Broadway Kid Rock offers live music on every floor. There is a rooftop bar that overlooks Broadway. Being that you are hungry from all that exploring, check out the menu with a great selection of food such as BBQ Chicken Club, Burgers, Nachos, and steaks. Oh, BTW … you better be hungry if you get the 36oz Tomahawk Ribeye.

Fleet Street Pub

If you want to be a bit adventurous and try a great hole-in-the-wall restaurant, check out Fleet Street British Pub in the legendary Printers Alley just 1 block off-Broadway. I have eaten at Fleet Street more than any other place in Nashville. It is pretty much a British sports bar that servers REALLY darn good food! Their lamb burgers are awesome! Order the potato wedges and a side order of potato soup. Dip the wedges in the soup .. yum!! Just a heads up for the non-smokers. They do allow smoking in this establishment. I myself am a non-smoker, the smoke is never thick and heavy so it hasn’t been a big deal to me as long as I’m not sitting right beside them.

Caney Fork River Valley Grille

Are you an adventurous eater? Do you wanna try some wild game foods? If you are spending one day in Nashville and really want to taste something different yet very good. Cany Fork is your place. Come hungry and ready to eat with an open mind. I personally love trying different foods so my favorite menu item to order here is the Wild Game Platter. It comes with Elk patties, Frog legs, Wild game sausage, Outfitter Stew, and Cajun Fried Gator Tail, then add 2 side items for just a little more $.

Don’t worry, they have conventional country items as well such as steak, pork chops, and more. In the back left of the restaurant, they have a wildlife scene set up with mounted Deer, Coyote, and other animals. It is built around a small pond with live catfish swimming around. Maybe you’ll get lucky and be there at catfish feeding time. It is a neat place with a country backwoods vibe. Just don’t order dessert. I’ve tried dessert there twice and it was still partially frozen each time.

Scoreboard Bar and Grill

If you want quick and easy in and out food that is still tasty, check out Scoreboard. This is probably one of the more popular places over in the Opryland Hotel area. You will have choices such as Texas Brisket, smoked quesadillas, hot chicken, ribs, pizza, and more. This place isn’t going to have the “cool factor” as some of the others that I’ve mentioned. But, it is good food that isn’t fast food junk that will get you back on your one-day Nashville adventure ASAP.

Check out the Music Valley Drive area

There are lots of other restaurants over in the McGavock / Music Valley Drive area to choose from. You can take a ride through the area to see if there is something else you may wanna try. There is also the possibility of finding an awesome restaurant inside the Opryland hotel but that is a totally different article. Check that one out here.

Lower Broadway, otherwise known as Honky Tonk Highway

Here is the #1 reason people want to visit Nashville.

Before I start this little tidbit about Honky Tonk Highway, let me give you a very big time-saving visitor tip. On Friday and Saturday night especially, but even during the day on Saturday and Sunday to a lesser extent … the lines are LOOONNNGGG!!

If you are here in Nashville just for one day. I suggest you hit Broadway during a weeknight. It is the same music in the clubs and bars, same drinks, same food all without the long wait to get in. When you have time you should come on back and hit Honky Tonk Highway on a Friday or Saturday night. Having the big crowds creates a totally different vibe, energy, or whatever you wanna call it. It is full of life and FUN! If you get carried away with the alcohol here are some hangover tips that may help you.

This post turned out way longer than I thought it would. So, just click here to check out the fun stuff on Lower Broadway.

Summarize your one day visit in Nashville

In this article, I gave you some of the most popular attractions in Nashville. But, these are not the only ones, not by a long shot! Try to group the location of the places you visit as close as possible if you can. The traffic in Nashville can be a beast during the wrong time of day which will eat up the time you have to spend here in your one-day visit.

Yall have fun now! Peace out!

Opryland Hotel – Nashville’s Premier Hotel

I live very near Nashville so I have visited Gaylord Opryland Hotel many times. It is one of the places I like most to practice my amateur photography.

Opryland Hotel is more than just a place to stay and rest. It is a place to have simple foods or 5-star dining. It is a place to have a romantic stroll through a huge lush garden, see beautiful waterfalls, and take a boat ride on the indoor river. Opryland Hotel is Nashville’s #1 hotel destination!

How do they fit all that into a hotel you ask? There are 9 acres under the huge glass atrium!!

What makes Opryland Hotel so awesome?!?!

Well, as I mentioned above there are lots of great attractions inside. When I get family or friends come in from out of town that have heard of this great Opryland hotel, we load up for a head that way. They are amazed when they get inside and start walking around. It is definitely one of Nashville’s most unique things to do. If they or you are hungry when you arrive, there is a good diverse selection of restaurants inside to appease anyone’s tastes. After fueling up with a good meal … go explore!

During non-holiday times the Opryland hotel is so fun and relaxing just to simply walk around and enjoy the sights. As I mentioned above there are waterfalls, some that you can walk under. The garden overall seems like you are walking through a dense tropical forest. As you walk along the paths you will come across smaller water features or neat little informational signs and artifacts. There are elegant gazebos perfect for picture taking. There are often events held in the area where the large gazebo is located. I’ve even seen a wedding happen there!

There are upper walkways that overlook the scenic gardens below. These overhead walkways have areas where you can stop and sightsee from above without blocking the foot traffic during peak seasons like Christmas .. more on that later.

In some areas, there are not just waterfalls but dancing water ponds! It is fun to watch the water streams shooting from one location to another to music. The coolest water fountain show is the Delta Fountain Show. This fountain is choreographed with water, lights, and music! It has many water jets and the center ones get real close to the atrium ceiling. It gets way up there!! I’ve sat and watched it several times. I love it each and every time!

You should see the Opryland hotel during Christmas!! There are 3 MILLION+ lights inside and outside. Lights from hanging from the atrium, along the walking paths, outside, they are everywhere!! Life-size Nativity scenes are set up outside. Horse and buggy ride for that romantic experience. It really is a beautiful time to experience Opryland Hotel if you can visit during that time. The lights are usually up from the beginning of November to January 1. There are small plays/shows and also there have been times they have big-name country music artists singing some Christmas tunes for all to enjoy. To see the garden or even the Christmas light lights is free. To enjoy the Gaylord ICE show, there is an admission fee. But, it is so worth it!

Booking.com

Is there a good selection of food?

There is everything from a cheeseburger joint to high-end Sushi available. Jack Daniels even has its own restaurant in the hotel.

In the Delta area is where you will find your basic eats. There is Stax, where you can get a burger and fries. There is pizza, pastries, and even frozen yogurt if you want something cold. These restaurants and also little small shops are located right beside the Delta river and indoor boat ride. If you choose to sit upon the balcony you will have a great view as you enjoy your meal. Oh, as a bonus tip, if you arrive at the correct times in the later evening you can enjoy a fountain show from the Delta Fountain.

Is there free parking at Opryland Hotel?

Well, technically yes, it just isn’t located directly on the hotel grounds. Oprymills shopping mall is right next door. There is a part of the mall parking lot that is just across the street from the rear entrance to the atrium. Park there and walk down the sidewalk until you see the hotel building. walk to your right and will see the covered concrete patio area. The door is just to your left. During Christmas, they have large ornaments that present great photography opportunities.

Go down Briley Pkwy and get off at the Oprymills Mall exit. Continue around the mall until you see the movie theater and an opening in the wall surrounding the hotel. You should park as close as you can to the road and walk across the road through the opening in the wall.

Opryland Hotel does offer valet parking if that is your thing or you happen to be staying there. Either way, there is a parking fee whether you are checking out the atrium or staying as a guest.

For more information about Opryland Hotel’s free parking, click here.

>> Click here for more information, reviews, pictures, and current pricing.

Where is everything inside the hotel atrium?

There are signposts and “You are here” signs posted throughout the facility to help guide you.

SoundWaves Water Park

What is SoundWaves? it’s a 4 acre, 3-levels indoor/outdoor water park with Cabana rentals and awesome water attractions all attached to Opryland Hotel.

Water attractions such as a mega raft called “Rapid Remix”, a translucent tube body slide, a Flowrider (one of those surfing but not going anywhere things), a lazy river, an activity pool, a splash pad for kids, and more! Oh, btw they also have lockers available.

SoundWaves is only available to hotel guests.

You should really come check out Opryland Hotel

As you can see this place is so much more than just another basic lay ya head-down hotel. It is basically a small city! Even if you decide to stay at one of the hotels downtown on Lower Broadway, you should at least come by and visit the atrium. You will not be disappointed, I promise!

Nashville Hangover slowing you down?

Where is there a hangover cure in Nashville? I totally get it! It is so easy to be having a great time bar hopping all the famous Nashville bars on Lower Broadway and get REALLY carried away with the alcohol!

You wake up the next morning with that Nashville hangover feeling like you have a hammer in your head that is in perfect timing with your heartbeat. Your stomach feels like you ate the worst rotten food out of a dumpster and you feel like you could vomit enough to fill an ocean. Your head is spinning so bad that you think you are strapped to a merry-go-round on the playground. Yes … I’ve been there before .. well .. actually a few times. Each time I swore I’d never drink again if I survived the hangover. If only there was an instant Nashville hangover cure!!

I have to admit, I used to typically just ride the hangover out until I feel human again. I would try to drink Gatorade or at least lots of water before bed. Then I’d place LOTS of water beside the bed so when I wake up the next morning I’d start the rehydrating process. Not exactly a hangover cure but it did help.

What is a hangover?

A hangover is basically the result of the toxicity of acetaldehyde in the body. Then combine that with low blood sugar, dehydration, and changes in electrolytes within the body. The result is feeling like there is a hammer in your head among the other symptoms I described above. Remember what I said above about trying to drink Gatorade before going to sleep after an alcohol binge. Welp, here is why. Replenish the electrolytes and rehydrate is a step in the right direction.

Nashville Hangover Myths

OK .. these hangover myths apply no matter where. But this website is about Nashville so why not put it in an H tag (that is website nerd talk).

Taking meds before bed

This actually isn’t a good idea. The alcohol is already wreaking havoc on your stomach. Most headache meds are hard on the stomach as well, so you could be just compounding the sick stomach effect of a hangover. You get a big glass of water and down the headache med in hopes to avoid the pains you are anticipating the next morning.

Sounds like a good idea I will admit. Not so fast, most typical over-the-counter “headache” meds only last for about 4 hours, so you may have outslept the “relief”. If you wake up the next morning feeling good, it is more than likely your body is partially rehydrated from all the water you drank taking the meds trying to get out of that Nashville hangover.

Anything with Caffeine

Yes, that includes coffee! Why? Because caffeine is a diuretic. A diuretic pulls water from body tissue. You are already hungover, you are already dehydrated. Don’t drink anything that will make it worse. Drink water or some form of sports drink that will replenish those electrolytes and rehydrate!

Have a stiff drink the morning after

This may make you feel better in the short term but it can actually prolong the hangover effects. Worse yet, this “circular mentality” can lead to an alcohol dependency.

Yea Yea Yea I get it!! All the drinking water and sports drinks I mentioned are boooorrrrrring!! Hey, look at it this way. Re-coop early, enjoy some sightseeing, party again at night. See .. I’m trying to help ya out!! 🙂

Proven or Plausible Nashville Hangover solutions

Will a Sauna help a hangover?

Honestly, this can be good or bad for your hangover symptoms. Yes, you will sweat out some of the junk in your system which can help. Here is the downside … your hangover symptoms are partially caused by dehydration. So, if you sweat even more in severe heat, it will dehydrate you even more. You will need to down a bunch of water or some form of sports drink to replenish the water and electrolytes in your system.

Still wanna sweat out the junk? Get lots of clean liquids in your system and go for it. Pay attention to how you feel because it can likely cause lightheadedness and dizziness. Or .. make your drunken hangover dizziness worse. Check out the Nashville places below to get your hangover sweat on.

Pure Sweat Sauna Studio – After you have rehydrated really well, go sweat the toxins out with a good infrared sauna session. An infrared sauna is MUCH better at sweating the toxins out of your body than wet saunas.

CYL Sauna Studio – Another great infrared place. They offer a 30-minute standard session and a 40-minute super sweat session where you lay in a pod to sweat away the toxins, stress, and weight if that is part of your goal.

Pure Sweat and Float – Yes it is related to the first one. This location is located in Brentwood, one of the outer districts in Nashville. Along with the infrared sweat saunas, this location has float therapy if later after you recover from the hangover you want a super relaxing experience. Just don’t go do the float therapy while you are in drunken puke mode. I’m sure they would charge you a majorly hefty clean-up fee if you puked in the saltwater capsule.

Juicing for a hangover

Yea seriously. If you think about the information you have read so far you can probably figure out why visiting a juice bar in Nashville can be good for your hangover. The vegetables, fruits, water, and other healthy additives they add to the juice smoothies can really help your body recover from last night’s drinking binge. Juicing for a hangover is a legit Nashville hangover fix. Below are a few of Nashville’s most popular juice bars.

Kwench Juice Café – Located in downtown Nashville on Church st. Kwench is locally owned and uses only top-quality ingredients.

I love Juice Bar – There are several locations around Nashville. The closest location to downtown is in the Gulch which isn’t a terrible walk from downtown. Honestly, if I was hungover I wouldn’t walk it. But if you happen to be staying in the Gulch, it will be in your area.

The Urban Juicer – I have been to a couple of their locations. I can tell you this … great quality, great taste, and great staff! They have a very good selection to suit most anyone’s tastes. They also have an app for your phone that can save you some time by not having to stand in line.

Party Patches to help with hangovers

The term party patch is a vitamin-infused patch that sticks to your arm, back, or wherever the directions tell you to stick them. Alcohol dehydrates and causes toxins within the body. These patches help with the symptoms of a Nashville hangover by replenishing the body with vitamins and nutrients. For the record, I have never tried any of these patches so I can’t provide any personal opinion. Below I will provide links to the Amazon top-rated party patches so you can purchase them before your night on the town.

Party Patches – Not just the generic name, this is actually the name of the product. This Amazon product has a 4.5-star rating and is very simple to use .. simply stick it to your body where the product directs you.

Monster Hangover patches – Heck, I’ve used the exact phrase “monster hangover” when I’ve woke up with one! These patches have a 4-star rating and at approximately $2 per serving, that’s a cheap solution to help with hangovers.

Smart Patches – Easy as peel and stick to avoid the pounding headache of a hangover. These have a 4-star rating stating they will help you have a headache-free day the next day after your wild night out in Nashville.

Drink Powders and Pills to help with that Nashville Hangover

The drink powders work! Now, I have never tried them to cure a hangover but I have used them during a long hike in the woods on a crazy hot day. When your electrolytes drop during hard exercises or in a case of a hard night of partying with lots of booze you start getting certain symptoms. These symptoms can be dizziness, lightheadedness, and confusion just to name a few. Getting rehydrated and replenish those electrolytes will help get you back to a better state of mind. Or, in a case of a hangover .. less pain and suffering. Below I will provide links to the top-rated drink powders or pills to help you with the Music City head pounding.

Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier – No this isn’t a needle in the arm IV hangover solution. We will get to those in the next section. This drink power is the highest-rated hangover cure option I have researched so far. I’m actually going to order these myself because I am outside in the heat … A LOT! This is a non-GMO electrolyte drink mix that is designed to get in your system fast.

DripDrop ORS – Electrolyte drink powder to get that rehydration process started fast to get that hangover gone! This doctor-created formula comes in a 3 flavor variety pack to give you flavor options.

Pedialyte Electrolyte Powder – Yea .. the stuff babies drink is great for adults as well! I have drunk a few different flavors of this stuff. Depending on how you like flavors you may want to go with less water or more powder. If I mix the nutrient powders in water, I like it to be a strong taste. Strong taste or not .. this stuff does work.

Hangover IV Nashville

OK, let us get into the IV hangover rehab now. I personally have never done this before but I know people who have. They totally swear by it for hangover recovery!! I believe I will try it sometime, from what I’ve heard it is like getting energy dripped right into your veins. If I do I’ll document the experience on the site and the YouTube channel. Let’s list a few places Nashville has to offer.

61Five Health & Wellness – This place specializes in skincare, medical weight loss, and IV therapy. Yep, they have a specific IV mixture for hangovers! They have IV therapy for many situations from just simple rehydration to Migraine relief.

Vida-Flo – They have an IV mix for many different ailments including hangovers. Wanna know what’s cool about this place??? They make house calls!! Yes, they will come to you to help you through that hangover!

Hangover Healthcare – I like the name! There really isn’t much question as to what they do. Like the other places they have an IV mix to rehydrate you and put those vitamins and minerals back in your body to help you re-cooperate from that party binge! Oh, like Vita-Flo they will make house calls with no extra travel charges.

Keep something in mind about these places. You are paying for your recovery and the convenience of them pumping the nutrients directly into your body, therefore, bypassing your digestive system for a faster recovery.

You can put the same nutrients right back in your system at much less of a price! But .. your digestive system has to process it, absorb it, and pass it into your bloodstream. Yes, it will take more time for all this to happen. As mentioned above in the “Drink Powders and Pills” segment you can get the mixes to put in water and take generic multivitamins to rejuvenate your system to help with the hangover symptoms. It is up to you and your budget how you want to recover.

Foods that help with hangovers

OK .. here are the big questions. What everyday foods should you eat to help with a hangover? What foods should you avoid while hungover?

Back in my party days, I concentrated on rehydration more than foods. There were certain foods that I love but when I was hungover I couldn’t stomach the thought of eating. For me, hamburgers and pizzas were 2 of such items. I could and would eat home-fried real eggs (not fast food powdered eggs) and a good ole layered biscuit.

When doing research for this article I discovered that eggs were actually a very good thing to eat in moderation. I also learned that listening to my body about not eating pizza and burgers during a hangover was a good thing as well.

In short, you need rehydration, minerals, electrolytes, carbs, and proteins. But proteins in moderations. I’ll list some food options to help you out.

Foods to eat when hungover

Eggs – Eggs contain cysteine, which is an amino acid your body uses to make glutathione. Alcohol depletes the body of glutathione. Glutathione breaks down alcohol. So … eggs replenish glutathione which breaks down the alcohol making your hangover recovery happen faster.

Crackers – here we have fast-acting carbs that will increase your blood sugars, therefore, helping with the hangover recovery.

Nuts – Nuts are high in magnesium. But you want nuts that are highest in magnesium to help speed your recovery from your Nashville hangover. Deez nuts .. ok back to being serious .. these nuts include almonds, cashews, and Brazil nuts.

Oatmeal – with a good healthy serving of oatmeal you will get a good dose of complex carbs that will assist in getting that blood sugar back in check. Not to mention it is a bit filling so it could make your stomach feel a bit better.

Blueberries – add these in the oatmeal or eat them straight. Blueberries will help you with that blood sugar thing. They also contain lots of great nutrients that help fight inflammation. After a big alcohol binge in Nashville, that hangover will have plenty of inflammation going on in the body. Eat the berries!! 🙂

Ginger – either eating ginger straight or as a tea. I have personally drunk honey/ginger tea for a few different stomach ailments. It does a great job at setting an upset stomach. Try getting LEGIT ginger tea not the cheap knock-off stuff for best results.

Water – good ole plain water can be a great help for a hangover. Why? Well if you have read this far into this article you should know the answer. Yep .. it is all about rehydrating the body. I personally loved really cold water during the hangover. My stomach felt better with each drink.

Green Tea – this is my go-to when I eat too much. It always helps with the fullness. You get all that good ole water for rehydration and lots of healthy antioxidants to help with hangover recovery.

Coconut water – this stuff is great for rehydration!! Coconut water has lots of great electrolytes in it to get the body straight after that Nashville party binge!

All these foods and some others that I didn’t mention can help with hangover recovery, but they are not hangover cures.

Foods not to eat when hungover

Coffee – You are already dehydrated from all that drinking. Coffee, or should I say the caffeine in it is a diuretic it will just dehydrate you more. I understand that you “may” feel a bit rejuvenated. At least drink lots of water with your coffee.

Orange Juice – or any citrus juice for that matter. Alcohol is already hard on your stomach. Dumping harch citrus juice on an already irritated stomach may just equal more pain and suffering for you.

More alcohol – For real?!?! No more alcohol, you are just extracting more water from your system. Let your body recover correctly before hitting the party supplies again. If you want to explore Nashville, do it in a recovered or at least recovering state from that Nashville hangover so you enjoy what all Nashville has to offer.

Greasy Foods – Do you like eating burgers, fries, pizza, and any other greasy foods? Eating greasy foods before or during drinking can actually slow the absorption of alcohol into the system. That is a good thing.

But … no eating that stuff during a hangover. Why do you ask? Your body is still trying to digest and process the alcohol you hammered down last night. Typically the heavy fatty foods will make your stomach feel much worse. It sure does mine! Also, Your body processes alcohol much the same way it does fats. Let your body take care of the alcohol first so you get to feeling better faster. If you ingest fatty foods it will just keep you feeling bad longer due to the body having to process fat and alcohol at the same time.

Nashville Hangover Summary

I really hope this article helps you. I have many times in the past been through the whole hangover torture. Each time … “let me survive this and I’ll never do it again” .. yea right! It is really easy to be out having a good time and just lose track of how much you drink. Just be responsible and have a good time!

Peace out y’all!

1. Free Music on Lower Broadway

Downtown Nashville Rooftop
View from rooftop bar overlooking Lower Broadway Nashville

To visitors who visit Nashville, this is the #1 reason why people come here. So, Also known as “The District”, this area is the mecca for free live music! Both sides of Broadway, 2nd ave, and other alleys nooks, and crannies have live music. There is country music, pop, blues, bluegrass, and even rock.

You don’t even have to walk into the bars to enjoy the music. Simply walking down the sidewalk is like changing radio stations. There are often street performers playing instruments, tap dancing, and even the musicians that drum on buckets. They are awesome!! This is the most popular of the free things to do in Nashville.

What are some of the most popular places to enjoy free music on Lower Broadway In Nashville?

Honestly, this is just a tiny drop in the bucket of free music that Nashville has to offer. I will build a dedicated page of the different districts to find free music to jam out to. Of all the free things to do in Nashville, this is the most popular for tourists.

2. Free Things to do at Night in Nashville

The First Saturday Art Crawl

This item on the free things to do in Nashville is for the people who love art. On the first Saturday of each month, many of Nashville’s most prestigious art galleries open their doors free admission. The Music City isn’t all about just music. There are fine art galleries all over the downtown area of Nashville ranging from the historic district such as “Arcade Alley” to Vanderbilt University. On this first Saturday, your art gallery hopping time is from 6pm to 9pm.

Be sure to check out the Frist Museum where they have art being displayed from established local and international artists. Their art displays rotate on a regular basis so check their website to see if what they have on display fits your tastes.

Honky Tonk Highway

Yes .. I know I mentioned this above. But hey .. welcome to the Music City capital of the world! Walking down Lower Broadway during the day you will encounter lots of great music. At night .. the transformation happens! As the sun sets, The District is just starting to wake up! More clubs, more bars, and lots more people to chill and/or party with. Don’t forget about the rooftop bars! Honky Tonk Highway is the area that made Nashville known across the world.

Wanna know more? Click here to check out the article about rooftop bars.

SoBro

Located right across the street from The District. Here you will find .. yep .. you guessed it .. more clubs, bars and lots of free music. Periodically, you will find an event going on behind the Hilton Inn at the Walk of Fame Park. In the park, they have several events scheduled throughout the year that could be added to the free things to do in Nashville list. I’ve been to several free concerts and festivals there. It is lots of fun!!

3. Free Nashville Parks

Parks in Nashville

Of the free things to do in Nashville, the locals utilize the parks the most. As well they should because there are many great parks to enjoy. When I’m visiting downtown Nashville I usually take a stroll down Riverfront park and Cumberland Park. Both of these places give you a different visual perspective of this beautiful city.

Centennial Park

Nashville’s premier park with its 132 acres of beautiful landscape, and Lake Watauga to take a romantic stroll around. Of all the free parks in Nashville, Centennial Park is one I visit the most. Call it my chillout happy place I guess. There are so many places where I will either chill with a book or I’ll have my Canon DSLR to take pictures of the flowers or ducks. Or, maybe a squirrel or two if the little critters will sit still long enough.

Love Circle Park

A little hidden gem is a place that only the locals know about. As the name implies you will find love-struck couples at the top of this hill all cozied up enjoying the awesome view of Nashville.

Love Circle is located right smack in the middle of a neighborhood on top of a big hill. The road going up to it kinda winds back and forth as you get to the top look to your left you will see Mount Richmore, the home of John Rich of the famous Big and Rich country music band.

The Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park

This 11-acre park is just over the hill from the state capital building. Just across the street towards Rosa L Parks Blvd will be the Nashville Farmers Market and Tennessee State Museum.

I’ve been to this park many times to take a casual stroll with friends. There is so much to learn about Tennessee by simply walking the paths here.

How you ask? There is the Pathway of History that gives you tidbits of history about Tennessee. A 200-foot granite map of Tennessee, a WWII Memorial, and then the fountain garden known as the Rivers of Tennessee Fountains. Can’t forget about the 95-foot bell tower. Go check out one of the nicest parks that’s one of the free things to do in Nashville.

That’s not all of the parks

These parks mentioned are only a few of the parks that Nashville has to offer. I will later be writing a dedicated article to showcase these wonderful places.

4. Free Attractions

Fort Nashborough Interpretive Center

Fort Nashborough is a replica of the first settlement led by James Robertson in Nashville in the late 1700s. For a free self-guided tour go to the bank of the Cumberland River at the end of Lower Broadway then look left .. you will see it. Weather permitting it is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 am – 4 pm.

Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center

It is hard to believe that this is one of the free things to do in Nashville because this isn’t just another run-of-the-mill hotel. It is practically a little city inside of a hotel. There are about 20 restaurants and bars, plus shopping and places for entertainment. But .. so what .. many hotels have that. Come visit the huge awesome atriums and you will see why this place is such a big deal.

There are about 9 acres of atrium with live plants and walking paths. There is even a little river called the Delta that has a flat bottom boat. Yep, you sure can take a ride in the boat! After the boat ride, go check out the water fountain show.

One little caveat. The hotel parking is expensive. If you’re just going in to walk around and explore, park by the movie theater at Oprymills shopping mall, which is free. Walk across the street and follow the sidewalk that will lead you right into the hotel and then into the first atrium.

Wanna know more? Click here to check out this article about walking around the Opryland Hotel.

What about parking at the hotel? Click here to learn about free parking at the Opryland Hotel.

Nashville Public Library

Located at 615 Church Street this one VERY nice library! There have been several times that I find myself a corner to chill while getting work done on my laptop.

The Nashville Library has free year-round events and classes for children and adults. Seasonal events and classes such as Courtyard Concerts, Festivals, Lego contests, and even puppet shows. I got lucky enough to accidentally catch one of the puppet shows once. It was fun. Yes, I’m still a kid at heart :-).

5. Free Nashville Museums

Tennessee State Museum

Located at 1000 Rosa L. Parks Blvd. The Tennessee State Museum has 137,000 sq. ft consisting of gallery space and administration offices. The gallery floor holds 13,000 years of Tennessee art and history. As you walk down the time tunnel you will encounter 6 permanent exhibitions, a hands-on children’s learning gallery, and a digital learning center.

Cooter’s Place Museum

Name one of the most popular TV shows ever!?! I would be referring to the Dukes of Hazzard. Take a drive to McGavock Pike, you can’t miss it. Usually, you will see Cooters tow truck outside and often General Lee as well. Go inside and see LOTS of show props, clothes (yes there is a pair of Daisy’s shorts .. well several actually), and lots of the history about the TV show. Also inside will be Daisy’s Jeep CJ and Rosco’s P Coletrain patrol car. If you were a Duke Boys fan, this is a must-see as one the free things to do in Nashville.

6. Free Sight-Seeing Tours

Street Art Tour

Nashville has so much GREAT street art! In fact, there are 39 Nashville murals created by local and international-renown artists. Street art in Nashville has exploded into a phenomenon. When people think of the “coolest Nashville murals”, the most popular one that comes to most people’s minds is the “Wings” or “What Lifts You Mural”. This mural is probably the most photographed mural in Nashville. You can purchase paid “riding” tours through various tour companies. But, you can make this one of the free things to do in Nashville as you visit each district and tour the murals while you are there.

Music City Walk of Fame

Nashville Walk of Fame Elvis
Elvis at the Walk of Fame Park

This is a very popular item on the free things to do in the Nashville list. Check out the Music City Walk of Fame located at 121 4th Ave S known as the SoBro area just across the street from all the famous Nashville bars. The Music City Walk of Fame in Nashville’s tribute to all genres of music artists that have contributed to everyone’s love for music around the world!!

Ryman Auditorium

Most of the time there is a fee of about $26 for a self-guided tour. Yea yea .. I know that isn’t free as this portion of the article is supposed to be about but hear me out. There are times that the Ryman does allow the public to come in for free to check out the inside, I’ve done it a couple of times. Now, on these “free” days there is still a small fee to do the backstage tour. If you opt for the backstage tour, there are NO pictures allowed because everything in the back is protected! It is a great tour if you get the chance to do it. If you are a die-hard country music fan, whether you make this one of your free things to do in Nashville, or you have to pay for the tour. I do highly recommend it!

Wanna know more? Click here for the schedule of events for the Ryman.

John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge

Or also known as Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge or at one time the Sparkman Street Bridge. Whatever name you decide to call the bridge there is one thing that can not be disputed, no matter where you stand on the bridge, the views of Nashville are awesome! There have been a few music videos created on and under this bridge.

I will create a free walking tour itinerary that will give you the best highlights of downtown Nashville. I’ll link it up here when it is ready.

7. Free Arcade

Free Games in Nashville

Either way, it will be a fun night out immersing in virtual reality.

8. Check out Popular Nashville Neighborhoods

Downtown

Be it, locals or tourists, this is the most popular “neighborhood” in Nashville for the party crowd. This is where all the bars and clubs are located. Well, a particular part of downtown is better known as “The District” or “Lower Broadway” Also, many museums and a few of Nashville’s parks are located in this area. If you enjoy a variety of great music, just walking down the sidewalks is one of the best free things in Nashville you can do.

SoBro

Just across the street from Lower Broadway is SoBro. There are even more bars, clubs, and museums, and a couple more of Nashville’s parks. There is also Ascend Ampitheater where the really big famous music acts put on some great shows.

The Gulch

The Gulch is home to some of the best restaurants in Nashville. No, I’m not just referring to high dolla suit and tie places. Well, The Gulch does have that as well. I was also referring to low-key but VERY cool places that include breweries, BBQ, hot chicken, famous old-school country meat and three, and biscuits .. yes I said biscuits. I’m referring to a little place called Biscuit Love. It is good, I’ve been there a few times.

West End

This is where Centennial Park is located with the Parthenon right in the middle. West End not only has great scenery but there are also great eateries and small music venues as well.

Music Valley

Opryland Hotel Atrium
The Delta Atrium inside Opryland Hotel

Free things to do in Nashville in the Music Valley area. The Opryland Hotel has the atrium inside which is a great site to behold in itself. There are lots of unique shops to check out. You gotta eat eventually, the food isn’t free but if you go to Scoreboard bar and grill they have great food, free live music, and free games outside in the yard.

9. Free Things to do in Nashville with Kids

Free stuff to do for kids in Nashville
Cumberland Park Splash Pad

OK … I’m gonna be real with you here. My kids are grown and gone and have been for many years. They no longer even live in the same state as I do. Raising them as a single father, I DID NOT have the money to do the really cool things such as Disney World or vacations on the beach.

I would save up throughout the year for us to take a “cool” vacation and even then it was a budget-type vacation that rarely left the state of Tennessee. But nonetheless, we had a great time even though I was usually flat broke!!

So, again .. being real with you. When we visited Nashville we usually went to one of the parks to have a good time. Every so often we would go to the Adventure Science Center .. no it wasn’t free.

So what free things to do in Nashville are for kids? Well, I had to do some research to see what was available as of this writing. I found where adults paid to get in and the little ones got in for free. Places such as wine vineyards, country music museums, art museums, and other places like this.

To be honest .. my boys would have been bored out of their skulls with these places! This is called “kid-friendly” … NOT … Kid enjoyable!!! So, true FUN places for kids that are FREE … I haven’t found much as of yet.

Check out this article about Awesome things to do with kids.

Free Nashville Parks

Parthenon Centennial Park
Centennial Park and the Parthenon

So, here is what I can tell you right off the top of my head. There are great parks in Nashville that little ones would enjoy. During the hot summer months, Cumberland Park, which is within a short walking distance from Lower Broadway has a GREAT kid area that includes a climbing wall, very cool slides, a sort of an obstacle course, and even a small water park. See even the little ones get free things in Nashville perks!!

I’m still a kid at heart and I would have loved this as a child. Late at night, when all the little ones are at home asleep, I have a few times climbed the walls, slid down the slides, and checked out the neat little obstacle course … shh .. don’t tell anyone.

Then there is Centennial Park. This isn’t really a kid playground per se. But there are lots of squirrels, ducks, and geese that my boys used to enjoy. There is even a lake where the ducks and geese hang out. Occasionally they can see fish come to the surface. It is a great peaceful place to experience some nature in the middle of the big city of Nashville. This is one of my top places on the free things to do in Nashville to just sit back and chill or take a peaceful walk.

Farmers Market

OK look, it is free to visit, it only costs you money if you buy something. I have on occasion just wandered around checking out the cool merch or chatting with the vendors or even a friendly stranger. In the middle of the Farmers Market is the food court. There is a wide variety to choose from and it is all GOOD!! For the kids, there is Jeni’s Ice Cream … just oh yea!!

I’ll be going to Nashville soon to talk to some people about this. If I find some more cool places I’ll drop in and edit this.

10. Cheap or almost free things to do in Nashville

I realize this post is titled “Free things to do in Nashville”, but staying with the saving money theme, I’ll add some cheap stuff as well. Cheap as in keeping the admission price below $20 per person. Don’t think that is cheap .. keep in mind there are places where the admission price is $50 or more. Just saying 🙂

The Parthenon

This really cool attraction is located in Centennial Park which I mentioned above. It is a full-scale replica of the real Parthenon located in Athens Greece. Inside there are many pictures of the replica’s creation, and several sculptures relating to Greek Mythology. The most awesome attraction of all is the 42-foot tall sculpture of Athena. You really should check it out. I’ve been there several times, I enjoy it each and every time.

Wanna know more? Click here to check out the Partenon article.

Cheekwood Gardens

This is a 55-acre botanical garden and art museum. There are at least 300,000 visitors (no that isn’t a typo) a year making this one of Nashville’s top attractions. Cheekwood has something for the whole family with year-round attractions. You should check out the Christmas attraction, it is amazing!!

Wanna know more? Click here to check out Cheekwood Gardens.

11. Adults pay but kids are free

Frist Art Museum

Heads up! Some of the sculptures I’ve seen here will mess with your head!! Can you say .. optical illusion? The artwork on display at the Frist Museum rotates on a regular basis. So you can go back periodically to see something new. I’ve seen displays from the Civil War era, Mongolian, and even really cool cars.

Wanna know more? Click here to check out Frist Art Museums’ current display.

12. Free Nashville Parking

Downtown Nashville Parking

Parking in Downtown Nashville can be difficult and even expensive. Let’s be honest, this is true for any big city. I’ve been blessed to be able to travel to many places across the US. Most big cities have the same parking issues .. expensive and sometimes difficult to find. I can honestly say that Nashville isn’t the worst nor as expensive by comparison.

I am going to try my best to make this page a good reliable resource for you to find parking in downtown Nashville. Please keep something in mind, with the exception of the places owned by Nashville / Davidson County, prices and availability can change at a moment’s notice. So, anytime I find information that is different from what I have on this page. I will update this ASAP! Basically, no privately run/owned website can be held responsible for parking pricing quotes or information. Hey … I’m just being honest. With that being said, I hope this article helps with your downtown Nashville parking.

The vast majority of parking in Nashville is privately owned by either a business establishment or a private individual. They control the pricing on their lots. So it goes without saying the pricing varies from one lot to another. Aside from the county/city-owned parking areas, the pricing ranges between $10 -$50 a day. I say those numbers very loosely!

Nissan Stadium (Titan’s Football Stadium)

Nissan Stadium Lot R Public Parking
Nissan Stadium Lot R Public Parking

Address: W side of S 1st St, N side of the bridge

Check out lot R for free parking. Yep .. Free!! But there is a slight catch. It is about a 10-minute walk to the party district in which you walk across the pedestrian bridge. As you cross the bridge you get a great view of the lights and action of downtown Nashville. I’ve walked it many times. I even stop on the bridge and soak up the view of the lights reflecting off the river. Nashville is a beautiful city with its mixture of new and old architecture … then add the colorful lights .. just WOW!!

The walk to the party district is no problem, it is very peaceful and pleasant. The walk back when you’re walking a bit sideways from bar hopping .. well .. please have someone with you to guide you and most of all drive you to your sleeping destination.

Metro Courthouse Garage

Entrance to the Metro Court Parking Garage on James Robertson Parkway
Public Square Parking on James Robertson Pkwy

Address: 101 James Robertson Parkway

Probably at least 99% of the time I go to downtown Nashville this is where I park. The two entrances are James Robertson Parkway just a the end of the bridge, the other is about midway on Gay Street.

As long as you roll in after 5 pm Friday you will usually only pay $5 for the day (well .. what’s left of it). On certain events, you may pay $15 or even $25 but to be honest it is only a couple of times a year that it gets that high. During really big city-wide events/festivals it may get to $25 a day. These are daily rates so it is still CHEAP for downtown Nashville Parking!!

Now don’t expect this to happen every time .. buuut … there have been times I’ve left the parking garage after midnight and there was no attendant to take parking payment. So, they will leave the gate up for you to roll out for FREE! Yep .. Free parking!!

If you happen to park here during the regular workweek during regular work hours. The parking payment caps at $20 a day.

This garage is open 24/7 with easy access to 2nd Ave (party area!), Broadway (another party area!), Printers Alley (yep .. another party area!), Nissan Stadium, Riverfront Park, TPAC, and much more!! OK .. I’m gonna be a total buzzkill now. It is also really close to the courthouse if you get a speeding ticket in Davidson County … trust me I know this LOL!!

Metro Library Parking Garage

Entrance to Downtown Nashville Library Parking Garage
Downtown Nashville Library Parking Garage

Address: 151 6th Ave North, 37219

As of this writing on 6/16/21 after 6 pm Friday and weekend the rate is $10 daily. For special events, the rate can get up to $15. If you happen to be in this garage during the regular week it is $3 per every 30 minutes at a maximum of $20 per day. If you are in the library (it is freaking awesome!) during the day you can get a “validation” to lessen the weekday rates. This is a county-owned garage so it is pretty well consistent in pricing.

On-Street Parking for Downtown Nashville

Downtown Nashville parking meter says $2.25 per hour
Downtown Nashville On Street Parking

Monday through Saturday after 6 pm free then all day Sunday. As you can see from the strike-through text, this has changed. Free parking is no longer offered at these locations. The rates are in the picture above and there are over 1000 locations. If you gotta ask, yes there are meter reader cops to enforce this. Deadrick Street is within close walking distance of the party district and has lots of other fun stuff and great food! There is On-street parking on Gay Street, which is very close to Lower Broadway!!

5th and Broadway Parking

This parking area in Downtown Nashville offers the least amount of walking. This parking garage has 830 parking spaces available. 5th and Broadway parking has the Food Assembly Hall connected to it. There are LOTS of great food choices with many of the local favorites having a location here.

The parking rates as of 2/22/22 are as listed: 11minutes to 1hr: $6, 1hr to 2hr: $12, 2hr to 3hr: $17, 3hr to 5hr: $20, 5hr to 24hr: $30.

Just a heads up, not all downtown hotels have their own parking. Here is a list of downtown Nashville hotels that are within walking distance of the bars.

Are there other options for Downtown Nashville Parking?

Those above are obviously not the only options to park. There are MANY MANY more privately owned lots to choose from. I will continue to add the more popular and convenient ones so you will have the information to help you out.

In the meantime, there are a couple of apps/websites to help you with finding downtown Nashville Parking.

Downtown Nashville Parking Apps

Spot Hero Website for Nashville Tennessee

Spot Hero is a website that also has an app available to load on your phone. The app is available on Android or Apple. Click here for Nashville Spot Hero.

Park Whiz Website for Nashville Tennessee

The other popular app is Park Whiz. Like the site/app above, Park Whiz is available as a website or phone app. The app is available for Android or Apple. Click here for Nashville Park Whiz.

If you happen to be going to Gaylord Opryland Hotel to walk around the atriums, here is the free parking option.

Updated: Jan 16, 2024 – I need to add the new Music City Center parking next

Downtown Nashville Hotels within walking distance of the bars.

Downtown Nashville Hotels is the perfect place to find a place to stay that is close to Lower Broadway, 2nd Avenue, and SoBro where all the action is. My goal on this page is to give you the top selected lodging options that are within easy walking distance of the bars, clubs, live music, and restaurants of the world-famous entertainment district in Nashville.

There are many great hotels to stay in that are within walking distance of the bars. This saves you money on transportation. I will try to include as much information as possible such as parking availability and cost, and WiFi. The order of this Downtown Nashville Hotel list isn’t about rating, it is just providing you with a list of what is available.

I watch several Facebook groups trying to assess what everyone is looking for when visiting Nashville. One of the most popular requests is having a room as close as possible to “Lower Broadway” where all the famous clubs and bars are located.

I am pretty much a regular running around downtown Nashville checking out the music and food at all the awesome venues. As I am there I get the opportunity to talk to many people from all over the world. Being a blogger, local to Nashville, and just an adventure seeker at heart I talk to many people about what they enjoy about Nashville. Where they have gone, where they want to go, and where they stay as well. So, I do have sort of an inside scoop to be able to give y’all accurate information. Let’s talk about some Downtown Nashville hotels.

I’ll add to the list of “Nice to know” the approximate walking distance time to the Downtown Nashville hot spot. Hope this website and this page help!!

Let’s get this list started.

1. Cambria Nashville Downtown

Huge 55″ TVs built for streaming and get this … Bluetooth Mirrors!

A very short walk to the party area! Walk out that door in the picture, turn right, walk to the corner, and turn right again. You can probably see the people on Broadway as soon as you turn the corner. So, just a couple of blocks until the party starts!!

Hotel Indigo is a 130-guest room hotel in the heart of downtown. Indigo is well within walking distance of the most famous bars in Nashville. Like, within a 3-minute walk.

3. Bobby Hotel Downtown

Downtown Nashville, The Bobby Hotel
Bobby Hotel Downtown Nashville Tennessee

I’ve been inside the Bobby a few times, the lobby is absolutely beautiful!! The rooftop bar has a bus … yes … you read that correctly .. there is a legit bus on the rooftop! Of the downtown Nashville hotels, no other has this!! The view is really good on the rooftop but not the best rooftop view downtown. The bus is for hotel guests to sit in to have some drinks. It is kinda neat to chill in the bus so The Bobby Hotel comes as one of the higher recommended places to stay.

Bobby Hotel resides right on Printers Alley, so it is just mere steps away from the most iconic party alley in the US! That makes it about an 8-minute walk to the most famous bars in Nashville. So, no driving is needed to get to a good time. I have visited several bars and restaurants on Printers Alley .. this alone makes Bobby Hotel a great option.

Bobby knows how to wine, dine, and entertain with 4 places to get great food and drinks. There is the Roof Top Lounge, Tavern at Bobby, Cafe at Bobby, and Bobby’s Garage Bar. With 4 places to choose from, anyone should be able to find the flavor they are looking for. My couple of visits to the Roof Top Lounge were good experiences with the company, atmosphere, and even the food. As I said above, the view isn’t the best downtown but nice nonetheless.

Bobby Hotel won multiple awards such as “Travelers Choice Awards”, and the Nashville Scene “Best of Nashville”, and this location is also a winner of the AAA Four Diamond Award. Some of the awards were displayed in the lobby when I was there. Sounds like a good place to stay huh?

4. Renaissance Hotel Nashville

See the “bridge” spanning across the road, that is the lobby of a restaurant. My son and I have been to the hotel, it is a very nice place and the food is pretty good as well. It is one of the longer walks to the fun of the “strip” but it is still an easy walk.

Renaissance Nashville Hotel is like the business luxury hotel of the downtown Nashville hotels. It has plush bedding, marble bathrooms, and a breathtaking view of Nashville for that upscale touch. Best of all, the most famous bars in Nashville are within a 3-minute walk.

5. Sheraton Grand Nashville Downtown

Sheraton Grand Hotel Nashville Tennessee - Main entrance
Front Entrance of the Sheraton Grand Hotel Nashville Tennessee

The Sheraton Grand Nashville is located downtown just outside The District area. Yet, it is still close enough to be a short walk to get to the most famous bars in Nashville. If you are in town to see a big show Tennessee Performing Arts Center is close. I have seen Gabriel Iglesias there! Awesome show!!

I haven’t been in this one. I have talked with several people who have stayed at the Sheraton, they said they enjoyed their stay but would have liked to have been closer to “all the fun stuff”.

6. The Capitol Hotel

Capitol Hotel Downtown has a nice Southern charm that is within walking distance of The Historic District. Of the downtown Nashville hotels on the list, this place is probably the longest walk of them all. When you leave Broadway after a night of Honky Tonk partying, the walk back will be all uphill. Modern amenities such as a fitness room, spacious lobby, vibrant modern décor, and an in-house restaurant.

Being a frequent flyer of downtown Nashville I’ve been by this hotel several times but not in it. Tourists I’ve spoken with leave me to believe that this is one of the lesser expensive places downtown within walking distance of the bars. But, they usually followed up by wishing it was closer but it was still manageable for the price of the stay.

7. Moxy Downtown Nashville

Moxy Hotel Downtown Nashville

The Moxy!!! This and Drury are the TOP downtown Nashville hotels mentioned by tourists and locals when they are downtown on “staycation”. Their little rooftop bar is awesome! I’ve eaten there and had drinks a few times and I can say that I liked it there very much! The food is great and the view over Lower Broadway is absolutely awesome!!

Located right on Honky Tonk Row, The Moxy Hotel Downtown Nashville is a few steps away from so many top attractions such as the Johnny Cash Museum, Country Music Hall of Fame, the Bridgestone Arena, and all the fun of the downtown clubs.

The Moxy is geared toward those who enjoy a fun stay instead of just “another hotel”. Many rooms have exposed brick interior walls, LED lighting under the bed, and huge 55″ TVs.

Be sure to take a few minutes to go check out Bar Moxy Coffee Shop and Lounge. It’s the social club for the Moxy guests to sit back and chill with a good latte or a cocktail of your choice. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a casual dress code.

8. Omni Nashville Hotel

I’ve been inside the Omni a few times, I love the decor. The view from the outer window locations is great! Out of the large windows on the side opposite Broadway, you can see the awesome mural that represents the Tennessee Titans and the 615 area code. Even if you don’t stay here you should check out the views that are offered if you explore the rooftop and other areas.

The Omni hotel is unique with its exposed steel and the use of local natural resources. For me personally, it is one of those buildings that stands out for its modern yet natural vibe.

Located in SoBro it is just a few walking minutes from “The District”, this hotel puts you very close to all the fun of Lower Broadway. If you are in no hurry to get to Broadway, you can relax at the rooftop swimming pool and lounge until the nightlife kicks in full force.

If you come out the door on the Vietnam Veterans, walk down to 4th Ave to get to Broadway you will be walking by the Walk of Fame Park where you can see the stars of many of your favorite musicians. Here is a short video of the walk to Broadway. Occasionally in that park, they have music festivals, craft beer festivals .. ya never really know what they are going to do there. Many times I’ve laid back in the grass watching live shows while drinking a good local craft beer!

Of the downtown Nashville hotels, The Omni, Drury, or Moxy would be my favorite pics. The Omni for the location of the walkable tourist attractions. Drury for location and amenities. The Moxy for the neat rooftop and just a few steps to Lower Broadway.

Omni Hotel Nashville offers a “Kids Crew” program that gives the little ones a backpack of neat stuff to do. Oh, can’t forget the cookies and milk delivered on their for the first night there.

9. Margaritaville Hotel Nashville

Margaritaville Hotel Downtown Nashville – Fella on the bike is a cool dude!

As many of you will know this was owned by the late Jimmy Buffet! There is this hotel and a Margaritaville restaurant on Lower Broadway.

I haven’t been inside this hotel, but like I mentioned in some of the above locations, I have talked with people who have. Everyone gives a geed review of the establishment itself. The only downside I’ve heard is the open parking lot doesn’t feel safe at night and I have read that there have been cars broken into although Incan not confirm that myself. Many of the hotels mentioned on this list have enclosed parking garages which keeps the rif raf out.

Margaritaville Hotel Nashville is in the SoBro area of downtown Nashville just 2 blocks from the “The District” where all the famous bars are located. Here is the YouTube video of the walk.

Right across the street from the hotel is a little dive bar called Bar Sovereign. It is a little dimly lit hole-in-the-wall place with a chill vibe.

10. Drury Plaza Hotel

Main Entrance Drury Plaza Inn Downtown Nashville

Based upon all my research the Drury is the #1 most requested, visited, and talked about hotel that is within walking distance of all the bars in Lower Broadway. It is pretty much across the street from Ascend Amphitheater if you plan on going to a big concert while you are in. I have done this walk several times so I can tell you firsthand that it is an easy walk. Here is a YouTube video of the walk to Broadway. It isn’t the closest, that title belongs to the Moxy, but it is a safe and short walk. Oh … Martins barbecue is a short walk and it is really good!!! Of the downtown Nashville hotels this is the most recommended one in all the Facebook groups, forums, and even the locals.

For the environmentally conscious people, Drury Plaza Inn is one of the biggest fans of protecting the environment. Drury Hotels seek to be granted the LEED certification by using energy-efficient designs, low-impact construction practices, and hotel amenities that reduce landfill waste. As part of recycling plastics, they even make sure your hotel key is recycled so it doesn’t land in a landfill! Keep Nashville Beautiful by recycling when and where you can.

Aside from the great environmental practices they offer, they also have you covered with great creature comforts. From the outside, it looks just average I guess one might say.
